- 4 colour process – 4 cols. Used in overlay to produce full colour
- Butt cut – cut across the web with square corners
- Cores – what labels are wound onto – standard core sizes 25mm, 45mm , 76mm
- Die cut – cut within material across the web producing
- Digital – process of manufacture, high quality finish out of cmyk, ideal of labels with many variants
- Fan folded – perforated across web and folded
- Flexographic – process of manufacture, high quality finish, ideal for large quatities, plain and printed
- Foot First or FootLeading – bottom of labels comes off roll first
- Four Colour Process – produces design or picture out of cmyk
- Halftone – tiny printed dots giving shade variations to a colour
- Head First or Head Leading – top of label comes off roll first
- Hotfoil – process of manufacture using foils to produce spot colours
- ID – internal Diameter, used to describe core diameter
- Kiss Cut – no gap between each individual label
- Left-hand leading – left edge of label comes off roll first
- Linework – no halftones, vignettes or tight register
- Over-laminate – seals label with clear film for durability, matt or gloss finish
- PMS – Pantone Colours – Pantone standard scale matched ink reference for designers and printers
- Right-hand leading – right edge of label comes off first
- Spot colours – individual colours in addition to 4 col. Process
- Thermal Transfer – process of manufacture, computer based design using ribbons to print barcodes and variable information
- Tight Register – when print colours have no room to manoeuvre
- UV Varnish – seals label giving gloss, satin or matt finish
- Vignette – graduating shade using one colour
- N.E.L – Narrow Edge Leading
- W.E.L – Wide Edge Leading
